By Daniel ThompsonApril 22, 2026

The singing group Ideal, formed in South Korea in 2015, gained significant attention for their unique sound and captivating performances. Fans worldwide were drawn to their blend of R&B, hip-hop, and pop, as well as their charismatic stage presence. However, after a few successful years, the group went on hiatus in 2019, leaving fans wondering, "What happened to Ideal?"

Ideal, consisting of members Uijeong, Youngjun, Hanbyul, and Seongyeon, debuted with their single "My. Girl" in 2015. They quickly gained traction with their smooth vocals and dynamic raps, earning them the title of "R&B idols." Their discography includes two EPs, "Blow Up" and "Fly With Me," and several singles, such as "Anthem," "Vibe," and "Buffalo."

The Hiatus Announcement

In late 2018, Ideal's agency, Plan A Entertainment, announced that the group would be taking a break. Fans were surprised and concerned, as the group was still actively promoting their latest single, "Buffalo."

The agency cited the members' desire to focus on individual activities and personal growth as the reason for the hiatus. However, rumors and speculations about internal conflicts and management issues also circulated among fans.

Members' Individual Activities

During the hiatus, Ideal's members pursued solo projects and collaborations. Uijeong and Youngjun formed a sub-unit, "2Young," and released a single in 2020. Hanbyul and Seongyeon also ventured into acting and modeling, respectively. These individual activities allowed the members to explore their personal interests and talents beyond Ideal.
