The East Coast is rich in history, and with history often comes ghosts. These haunted houses have stood the test of time, and so have their spectral residents.

The prison's brutal history of solitary confinement and cruel punishments has left an indelible mark, with inmates' spirits said to still roam the cells. The chilling Al Capone cell and the haunting echo of inmates' cries make this a must-visit for thrill-seekers.

Eastern State Penitentiary's annual Halloween event, Terror Behind the Walls, is one of the country's largest haunted houses, drawing thousands each year. But the real terror lies in the eerie silence and cold dread that permeate the building even when it's empty.

The Myrtles Plantation, St. Francisville, LA

Dubbed "One of America's Most Haunted Homes" by the Travel Channel, The Myrtles Plantation is a Louisiana antebellum mansion with a dark past. The ghosts of former slaves, a murdered family, and a heartbroken woman named Sara Woodruff are said to haunt the house. The plantation's gardens are particularly eerie, with reports of ghostly apparitions and unexplained noises.

The Myrtles offers overnight stays, giving brave visitors the chance to experience the ghosts firsthand. But be warned: not everyone who stays the night leaves unscathed, with some guests reporting terrifying encounters and others leaving with strange photographs.

Midwestern Ghost Towns and Asylums

Patients who died violent deaths are said to still roam the halls, their torment echoing through the empty corridors. This beautiful chapel in the Ozark Mountains is a architectural marvel, but it's also a hotspot for paranormal activity. Visitors have reported seeing ghostly figures, hearing unexplained noises, and feeling an intense, inexplicable dread. The chapel's remote location and isolated atmosphere only add to its eerie allure.

Thorncrown Chapel is open to the public, but its haunting presence can be felt even from a distance. The chapel's glass walls and soaring arches seem to invite the spirits in, and the result is a chilling, unforgettable experience.

Stull Cemetery, Stull, KS
