DIY Outdoor Pizza Oven Stand Plans
Elevate your outdoor culinary experience with a custom-built pizza oven stand. Not only does it add a rustic charm to your backyard, but it also ensures your pizza oven is at a comfortable working height. Here, we'll guide you through creating the perfect outdoor pizza oven stand, complete with detailed plans and step-by-step instructions.
Before we dive into the plans, let's consider the benefits of having a dedicated pizza oven stand. Firstly, it keeps your oven off the ground, protecting it from moisture and potential damage. Secondly, it provides ample workspace for preparing and cooking your pizzas. Lastly, it adds a focal point to your outdoor space, making it an attractive gathering spot for friends and family.
Designing Your Pizza Oven Stand
When designing your pizza oven stand, consider factors like size, material, and style. The stand should be large enough to accommodate your oven and provide sufficient workspace. It should also complement the design of your oven and blend with your outdoor decor.
For this guide, we'll use a simple, sturdy, and stylish design that can be built using basic tools and materials. The stand will be made of pressure-treated lumber to ensure longevity and will feature a concrete slab top for heat resistance.
Materials Needed
Here's a list of materials you'll need for this project:
- Four 2x6 pressure-treated lumber boards (8 feet long)
- Four 4x4 pressure-treated lumber posts (8 feet long)
- Two 2x4 pressure-treated lumber boards (8 feet long)
- One 2x6 pressure-treated lumber board (12 feet long)
- One 1/2-inch thick concrete slab (4 feet by 2 feet)
- 3-inch exterior wood screws
- 2 1/2-inch exterior wood screws
- Exterior wood glue
- Carriage bolts (1/2-inch diameter, 4 inches long) and nuts
- Galvanized washers
- Concrete pier blocks
- Concrete mix (for filling pier blocks)
Tools Needed
You'll also need the following tools to complete this project:
- Circular saw
- Drill with driver bits
- Tape measure
- Level
- Speed square
- Clamps
- Safety glasses
- Work gloves
- Hearing protection
Building the Pizza Oven Stand
Now that you have your materials and tools ready, let's start building your pizza oven stand.
First, you'll need to cut your lumber according to the following dimensions:
- From the 2x6 boards, cut four 24-inch lengths for the legs and four 16-inch lengths for the supports.
- From the 2x4 boards, cut four 24-inch lengths for the brace supports.
- From the 4x4 posts, cut four 24-inch lengths for the corner posts.
- From the 2x6 board, cut one 48-inch length for the top frame.
Assembling the Legs and Supports
Using the 2x6 lumber, assemble the legs and supports as follows:
- Attach two 16-inch supports to the inside of two 24-inch legs using 3-inch screws, creating two 'L' shapes. Ensure the supports are flush with the top of the legs.
- Repeat this process to create the other two 'L' shapes.
Attaching the Corner Posts
Attach the 4x4 corner posts to the inside of the 'L' shapes using 3-inch screws. The posts should be flush with the bottom of the legs. Ensure the stand is square by measuring diagonally from corner to corner.
Adding the Brace Supports
Attach the 2x4 brace supports to the inside of the legs, about 12 inches from the bottom. These will provide additional stability to the stand.
Assembling the Top Frame
Attach the 48-inch 2x6 board to the top of the legs using 2 1/2-inch screws. This will serve as the frame for the concrete slab top.
Securing the Stand Together
To ensure the stand remains sturdy, reinforce the corners with carriage bolts and nuts. Drill a 1/2-inch hole through the legs and corner posts, insert a carriage bolt, and secure it with a nut and washer. Repeat this process for all four corners.
Preparing the Concrete Slab Top
Before installing the concrete slab, you'll need to create a level surface for it to sit on. You can do this by filling the pier blocks with concrete mix and placing them under the corner posts and brace supports. Allow the concrete to cure before proceeding.
Installing the Concrete Slab Top
Once the concrete has cured, place the 4 feet by 2 feet concrete slab onto the top frame. Ensure it's level and centered. You can secure it in place using construction adhesive or by drilling screws through the frame and into the slab.
Congratulations! You've now built a sturdy and stylish pizza oven stand that will serve as the perfect base for your outdoor culinary adventures. Now, all that's left to do is place your pizza oven onto the stand, fire it up, and enjoy the delicious results.
