24 reactions | Since the year is wrapping up I figured I’d reshare the biggest project of 2025, specifically this video that started it all. Here, we started refacing our cabinet doors, but now they’re completed, hung, and painted! This DIY is actually really simple. We ripped down 1/8 inch plywood (sounds like I said 8 inch plywood 🥴) to sheets that are wide enough to cover the grooves in the current door design. We secured the boards with liquid nails and 1/4 inch finish nails. Once that was done, we mudded, sanded, and painted them all. Go check out @fifthgenerationrenovation to see the finished look! What do you think? Would you attempt the diy or buy new?! #kitchenremodel #kitchenreno #kitchenrenovations #kitchencabinetdesign #shakercabinets | Fifth Generation Renovation | Facebook

When choosing a paint color, consider the overall aesthetic of your room and the mood you want to create. For a bold look, opt for a deep, rich hue like navy blue or hunter green. If you prefer a more subtle approach, choose a soft, neutral shade that complements your existing decor. Don't forget to consider the finish as well – glossy or semi-gloss paints are excellent choices for cupboard doors, as they are easy to clean and maintain.

Two-Tone Cabinet Doors

For a unique and eye-catching look, consider painting your cupboard doors in a two-tone color scheme. This technique involves painting the outer frame of the door one color and the inner panel another color. The contrast creates visual interest and adds depth to your space.

To achieve this look, start by painting the outer frame of the door in your chosen color. Once it's dry, tape off the frame and paint the inner panel in a complementary or contrasting shade. Remove the tape while the paint is still wet for clean, crisp lines. This technique works particularly well with shaker-style doors, but it can be adapted to suit various door styles.

Ombré Effect

If you're looking for a more dramatic transformation, consider creating an ombré effect on your cupboard doors. This technique involves gradually blending one color into another, creating a seamless, gradient effect. It's a stunning way to add depth and dimension to your space and can be achieved using a variety of colors.

To create an ombré effect, start by painting your cupboard doors in your lightest shade. While the paint is still wet, use a damp sponge or brush to blend in the next shade, working your way down the door. Continue this process, gradually darkening the shade as you go. The result is a beautiful, gradient effect that adds a touch of sophistication to your space.

Add Decorative Hardware

Another easy and effective way to upgrade your cupboard doors is by adding decorative hardware. Knobs, pulls, and handles can instantly elevate the look of your space and add a touch of personal style. With countless options available, you're sure to find something that suits your taste and complements your existing decor.

When choosing hardware, consider the overall aesthetic of your room and the mood you want to create. For a classic, timeless look, opt for simple, elegant knobs and pulls in a metallic finish like brass, bronze, or nickel. If you prefer a more rustic or industrial vibe, choose hardware with a distressed or hammered finish. Don't be afraid to mix and match materials and finishes to create a unique, eclectic look.

To achieve this look, start by selecting a few different knob or pull styles that you love. When installing the hardware, mix and match the pieces to create a unique pattern or arrangement. For example, you might use a large, decorative knob on the top of each door and a smaller, simpler pull on the bottom. Or, you could create a symmetrical look by placing a knob on one side of the door and a pull on the other.

Add Embellishments

If you're looking to add a touch of glamour to your cupboard doors, consider adding embellishments like crystals, beads, or metallic accents. These eye-catching details can instantly elevate the look of your space and add a touch of luxury.

AD

To incorporate embellishments into your cupboard door design, look for hardware with built-in accents or add them yourself using adhesive-backed embellishments. You can also create your own custom hardware by attaching embellishments to plain knobs or pulls using glue or jewelry findings. The possibilities are endless, so let your imagination run wild!

Upgrade with Glass or Lattice Inserts

If you're looking for a more dramatic transformation, consider upgrading your cupboard doors with glass or lattice inserts. These beautiful additions can instantly add light, texture, and visual interest to your space.

Glass inserts come in a variety of styles, from clear and frosted to stained and etched. They're an excellent choice for adding a touch of elegance to your space and can help to make small rooms feel larger and more open. Lattice inserts, on the other hand, are perfect for creating a rustic, cottage-style look. They add texture and dimension to your cupboard doors and can be stained or painted to match your existing decor.

Frosted Glass Inserts

For a modern, sophisticated look, consider using frosted glass inserts on your cupboard doors. These inserts allow light to pass through while maintaining privacy, making them an excellent choice for kitchens, bathrooms, and other spaces where you want to keep contents hidden.

Frosted glass inserts come in a variety of patterns and textures, from subtle and understated to bold and geometric. To incorporate them into your cupboard door design, simply measure and cut the inserts to fit the inner panel of your doors. Attach them using adhesive or hardware, and enjoy the added light and privacy they provide.

Lattice Inserts with Stained Glass

For a unique, eye-catching look, consider using lattice inserts with stained glass on your cupboard doors. This combination adds texture, light, and a touch of whimsy to your space, creating a stunning focal point.

To achieve this look, start by selecting a lattice insert style that complements your existing decor. Next, choose a stained glass design that incorporates colors and patterns that speak to your personal style. Attach the lattice insert to the inner panel of your cupboard door, and then insert the stained glass pieces into the lattice. The result is a beautiful, one-of-a-kind door that adds character and charm to your room.

Incorporating any of these ideas into your cupboard door design is sure to transform your space and add a touch of personal style. So go ahead, get creative, and have fun making your cupboard doors the star of the show! Who knows, you might even find yourself inspired to tackle other DIY projects around your home. Happy upgrading!
