But with so many options available, which whiskey advent calendar is the best? Let's dive into the world of Reddit and explore the top choices among whiskey connoisseurs.

Before we delve into the best whiskey advent calendars, it's essential to understand what makes these countdowns so appealing. For whiskey lovers, these calendars offer an opportunity to discover new brands, try different styles, and expand their palates. Moreover, they provide a fun and engaging way to celebrate the holiday season, one dram at a time.

Understanding Whiskey Advent Calendars

Whiskey advent calendars are designed to replicate the traditional chocolate advent calendars, but with a more mature twist. Behind each door, you'll find a small bottle or dram of whiskey, ranging from single malts and bourbons to ryes and blended whiskeys. Some calendars focus on a specific region or style, while others offer a diverse selection from around the world.

To ensure you're getting the best value and experience, it's crucial to consider factors such as the variety of whiskeys, bottle sizes, and overall quality. Reddit users have shared their insights and experiences, helping fellow whiskey enthusiasts make informed decisions when choosing the perfect advent calendar.

Dramming Good Whisky - The Original Whiskey Advent Calendar

One of the most popular whiskey advent calendars among Reddit users is the Dramming Good Whisky calendar. This calendar has gained a reputation for its exceptional variety and quality, featuring a mix of well-known and lesser-known whiskies from Scotland and beyond. With 24 drams, including a range of ages and styles, this calendar offers an excellent introduction to the world of whisky.

Reddit users praise the Dramming Good Whisky calendar for its diverse selection, with many discovering new favorites among the drams. The calendar also includes tasting notes and fun facts about each whiskey, adding an educational element to the countdown. However, some users note that the smaller bottle sizes (around 30ml) may not be sufficient for those who prefer larger pours.

Master of Malt Whisky Advent Calendar

Another highly-rated whiskey advent calendar on Reddit is the Master of Malt calendar. This calendar stands out for its impressive variety, featuring a mix of well-aged and rare whiskies, as well as some unique and experimental expressions. With 24 drams, including a range of bottle sizes, the Master of Malt calendar offers excellent value for money.

Reddit users appreciate the Master of Malt calendar for its diverse selection and the inclusion of some rare and sought-after whiskies. However, some users note that the calendar can be quite expensive, making it less accessible for those on a budget. Additionally, the larger bottle sizes may lead to some drams being opened earlier in the month to prevent evaporation and oxidation.

Themed Whiskey Advent Calendars

In addition to the more general whiskey advent calendars, themed calendars have gained popularity among Reddit users. These calendars focus on a specific region, style, or theme, allowing enthusiasts to explore a particular aspect of the whiskey world in more depth.

For example, the Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS) offers a range of themed calendars, focusing on different regions and styles of Scotch whisky. Reddit users appreciate these calendars for their deep dive into the complexities of Scotch, as well as the opportunity to try some rare and exclusive expressions.

Regional Whiskey Advent Calendars

Regional whiskey advent calendars allow enthusiasts to explore the unique characteristics and flavors of whiskeys from specific areas. For instance, the American Whiskey Calendar focuses on bourbons and ryes from the United States, while the Irish Whiskey Calendar showcases the best of Ireland's spirit. Reddit users enjoy these calendars for their opportunity to compare and contrast whiskeys from different regions.

However, some users note that regional calendars may lack the diversity found in more general calendars, and some may prefer a broader range of styles and ages. Nevertheless, these calendars provide an excellent starting point for those looking to explore a particular region's whiskey scene.

Specialty Whiskey Advent Calendars

Specialty whiskey advent calendars cater to specific interests or preferences, such as cask-strength whiskies, peated whiskies, or whiskies from independent bottlers. These calendars allow enthusiasts to dive deep into a particular aspect of the whiskey world, providing a more focused and curated experience.

Reddit users appreciate these calendars for their ability to cater to specific tastes and preferences. However, some users note that the limited availability and higher price points of some specialty calendars can make them less accessible to casual whiskey enthusiasts.

As the holiday season approaches, whiskey advent calendars continue to captivate the attention of enthusiasts worldwide, with Reddit serving as a hub for sharing experiences and recommendations. By considering the diverse range of calendars available and the insights shared by fellow whiskey lovers, you can find the perfect countdown to Christmas. So raise a glass, open the first door, and embark on a month-long journey of discovery and enjoyment.
